card-stud-poker-river-cardCard stud poker, whether 5 card or 7 card comes to the final and most exciting point at the time when the river card is dealt. This card is the last of the card to be dealt to each of the players and is dealt face up. This is the 5th card to be dealt is the 5 card stud and the 7th in the 7 card stud. All the players who are surviving till that point have to make the final bets and as the situation is clear for all the player at this point, every one tends to become aggressive with their moves.

When the previous cards were dealt, you had the options of betting, raising, checking or folding. Technically, you have all these options at this stage too, but now, as you have already put in so much money into the bets, there is no point to folding it is sensible to make a bet and try your luck. If you are not sure of betting, the other most sensible thing to do is to check and wait to see what the other players choose to do. But this is not usually useful as most of the players have already folded by this time and if you have been doing your math on the folded cards, you should have a clear idea of the situation.

If you think that you hand is weaker than the other player, it will be a better choice to check as in this case you know that as soon as you will make a bet, the player with the better hand will get more aggressive with his bet and pressurize you to make a bet again. But if you have a low hand that you can count upon then you can go for betting and the raising. These bets will loose you more money than you should or bring a bigger pot to you. What happens depends on luck, which is an undeniably important factor of every gambling game.

In case you have a high hand, then you have to do something else. It may be possible that your high hand will be up against other low hands on the table. Thus, there will be chances for the pot to be split. In such a situation, the best option is to wait and watch if the any of the players with the low hands has been successful in improving his hand and making it into a flush or straight. In case you see that there are 2 players on the table who are going to call on their weak hands, then don’t hesitate in making your bet.

Another situation that you may face in the river round is to be up against a player who has been betting on his low hand, during the game. If you think that, he may not have a good hand like a flush or straight, then go ahead and make your bet. In such a case, if you end up having a better low hand, you will get to share the pot and thus win half of it.
